Selection Process in Management

Each organization, because they have their own criteria, requires a selection process. The key moves, however, remain the same. So, let's explain quickly how the process of selection works.



  • Preliminary Interview 

    This is a very general and simple interview to exclude the applicants who are totally unfit for the organization's work. It leaves the company with a pool of workers who might be fit to fill their vacancies.
  • Receiving Applications 

    Potential employees submit applications to the company to qualify for a position. The request provides information about applicants such as their bio-data, work experience, hobbies, and interests to the interviewees.
  • Screening Applications 

    Upon obtaining applications, a special screening Committee shall review applicants from the applications for an interview. Separate requirements such as education, work experience, etc can be used to pick the applicant.
  • Employment Tests  

    We should assess their talents and skills before a company agrees on an acceptable job for an employee. This is achieved by various job assessments, such as intelligence tests, fitness tests, ability tests, personality tests, etc.
  • Employment Interview

    The job interview is the next step in the selection process. Employment interviews are performed to assess the willingness of an applicant to function in-depth in an organization. An interview aims to determine the candidate's suitability and to give him an idea of the work profile and what the potential employee expects. For selecting the right people for the right jobs, a work interview is important.
  • Checking References  

    Another significant source of information is the person who refers to a potential employee. The referee can provide information about the expertise, experience and management skills of the employee in previous companies. The details supplied by the referee are intended to keep the HR department confidential.
  • Medical Examination  

    The medical exam is also a big step in the process of choice. Medical examinations allow employers to know if one of the applicants can perform their duties in their work physically and mentally. A good health inspection program ensures better employee health levels and less absence, injuries and employee turnover.
  • Final Selection and Appointment Letter  

    This is the last step in the process of choice. The employer should receive a letter from the candidate confirming his appointment to the job after all the written tests, interviews and medical examinations have been successfully passed. The letter covers all the job information such as working hours, wages, leave allowances and so forth. Employees are often working conditionally when they are permanently hired after their job is fulfilled.

Importance of the Selection Process

  1. Proper selection and placement of employees lead to the growth and development of the company. The company can similarly, only be as good as the capabilities of its employees.
  2. The hiring of talented and skilled employees results in the swift achievement of company goals.
  3. Industrial accidents will drastically reduce in numbers when the right technical staff is employed for the right jobs.
  4. When people get jobs they are good at, it creates a sense of satisfaction with them and thus their work efficiency and quality improves.
  5. People who are satisfied with their jobs often tend to have high morale and motivation to perform better.
